Daytrotter • “There are so many music/entertainment websites that copy one another, scrambling so fast to “discover” or present something new to the world. And just because you get there first, it doesn’t really make you an explorer. We did poke a stars and stripes into the moon, but we could always see it. We knew it was there. It wasn’t new. We can always come along and say we did, saw, heard something first, but we’re never right.” What Daytrotter is attempting to do is to not kid around with you and tell you that they’ve found something that you never knew existed. They are contributing to the musical landscape, not just tossing it around like a used book or a stolen pick-up line. They’re going to give you something that you truly have never heard. Daytrotter is not giving you songs from someone you love’s record album, thereby stealing from someone you love. They’re giving you exclusive, re-worked, alternate versions of old songs and unreleased tracks by some of your favorite bands and by a lot of your next favorite bands.

These fine people, as they’re traveling through America’s heartland, take two hours out of their travels between shows to stop in for a Daytrotter Session at The Horseshack in downtown Rock Island, Ill. The name of the city is not ironic. They use borrowed instruments, play with their touring mates, utilize an often unkempt toilet, eat some food and then cram back into their vans for the last half of the drive. What they leave behind is a pile of ashes, sometimes a forgotten stocking hat and four absolutely collectible songs that often impart on whomever listens to them the true intensity that these musicians put into their art, sometimes with more clarity than they do when they have months to tinker with overdubs and experiments. These songs are them as they are on that particular day, on that particular tour – dirty and alive.
Who is Daytrotter?
Sean Moeller is a homegrown Iowan with a penchant for bearding and hyperbole, though neither have ever been life-threatening. He began his days in music listening to Alabama cassette tapes and performing karaoke to them in the family living room prior to there even being a proper spelling for karaoke. He drinks Cocoa Porter when it’s showtime, eats burritos and BBQ when it’s other times and once was assigned a piece of writing by a national magazine to pen a faux obituary for comedian Neil Hamburger. Some thought he was actually deceased. He needs to rewatch the Deadwood series, enjoys running, reading books by Richard Brautigan, Nathaniel West and Little Penny and writing about HIT recordings when the time allows. He stands by his wife and two darling daughters in Davenport, Iowa, next to and across from Rock Island, the birthplace of the modern computer fools.
Michael Morrissey Gentry, born and raised in Moline, IL. Owner-operator of many small guerrilla recording outfits, he has become accustomed to the rigorous demands of audio warfare. Michael spent much of his time doing sound for music clubs and pushed many a box for P.A. rental companies. A 4-year stint in the television news industry resulted in his avowed devotion to preaching against the mainstream news and its product as a farce meant to control the public’s perception of reality and the scope of allowable debate. Michael is a believer in Thomas Jefferson, Ron Paul, Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, H.L. Mencken, Albert Jay Nock, Garet Garrett, monetary theory, the philosophy of Classical Liberalism, Austrian economics and the Anti-State ideology which inevitable results from real freedom. Peacefully resist through the tenth amendment.
Johnnie Cluney is an illustrator/musician from the quad cities. His design adventures began in his early grade school years with ninja turtle drawings, and bubble letters. Since then Johnnie has gone on to design countless flyers, record covers, tee-shirts and more. When Johnnie is not busy drawing he enjoys making home recordings with his bands Quiet Bears, Mondo Drag, and Yes Future. His turn-ons include prisma markers, and burritos.
Phil Pracht often finds himself in the middle of heated conversations between Sean and Johnnie about WWF Wrestling (circa Jake The Snake and Brutus the Barber Beefcake). When he’s not mediating those cage matches he enjoys Batman comics, Tears For Fears, playing the drums, and listening to the War of The Worlds radio broadcast by Orsen Wells. Born in Davenport, IA Phil is the youngest of seven brothers and sisters (one sister of which is Sean’s wife Maggie). He may or may not be controlling the online character “Daytrotter” in Mario Kart Wii.
