"I have been going up on the hill every year since 1978. One of my best memories is seeing Alison Krauss and Tony Rice jamming in between a couple of cars. It was about 3 in the morning with only a handful of people gathered around." ~ Nate Yordon
"I’ve been going to Grey Fox since 1996. I was six years old. I fell in love with the hill and have gone every year since. I finally got my license now so my car will be blessed with the top camp sticker in the window. It’s become a part of my family’s life. Thank you to everyone who makes it possible." ~ Phil Caseria

"About 20,000 bluegrass and acoustic music fans from over 30 states and a dozen countries experienced the 2010 edition of Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival on the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, New York. They came to see their favorite traditional, contemporary, old time, new grass, jamgrass and dance bands for four music-filled days in July."
The festival’s lineup, as always, read like a Who’s Who of Bluegrass. The main stage featured outstanding performances by Sam Bush, Kathy Mattea, Tim O’Brien, Del McCoury, Railroad Earth, David Grisman, The Greencards, Crooked Still, Doyle Lawson, Sarah Jarosz and many others. At the Dance Pavilion, fans danced their bluegrass socks off to Donna the Buffalo, Rockin’ Acoustic Circus, Planet Zydeco, The Wilders, Blue Sky Mission Club, The Lustre Kings’, Sweetback Sisters and learned to square dance and clog with John Kirk and Trish Miller.
Stellar workshops by top artists (Sam Bush, Tim O’Brien, Josh Williams, etc) and showcases by the region’s emerging artists (Andrew & Noah VanNorstrand, Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys, Joe Singleton, Tony Watt & SE Expressway, were presented at the intimate tented Master Stage each day. And at the Grass Roots tent, bluegrass greats such as Bill Keith, Kimber Ludiker and Ron Thomason taught hands-on workshops to fans who brought their instruments with them. Day and night, spontaneous jam sessions cropped up at hundreds of campsites around the grounds.
"True to form, Grey Fox once again proved to be a very family friendly event, with non-stop activities for kids, such as crafts, tie-dying, yoga, games and performances by clowns, ventriloquists, puppeteers and musicians at the Family Tent each day. And the festival’s signature Bluegrass Academy for Kids, led by fiddler extraordinaire, Brian Wicklund, taught more than 100 young students (age 8-17) to play and sing bluegrass music."

Thank YOU!

I’ve been going to Grey Fox, Winterhawk and its predecessor, the Berkshire Mountain Bluegrass Festival since 1977. (I missed the first year when Buddy Merriam was struck by lightning and met Bill Monroe.) Since those early years, the festival has grown and evolved into a multi-stage, very eclectic event musically and otherwise. The stage acts are as good as it gets and the activities have everyone in mind — from music and dance workshops to cooking demonstrations! And the camping scene is so fun and relaxed with fans from 30-some states and over a dozen countries. Grey Fox is big on participation, so bring your instrument and learn to pick! Or start up a jam at your campsite and see who joins in. No matter where you camp, your neighbors will soon be “family.” Leave the cares and woes of the world behind and come to the Brigadoon of bluegrass! You’ll be so glad you did. To me it’s like stepping into an amazing energy field that makes you happy and excited about being alive. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be during the 3rd week in July. Beam me up, Scotty!
Hi Mary, having never been to Grey Fox I have to say that your comment just brought me there on a little mini-vacation. What a great way to start the day. Thank You. Hope to be there this year.
Love me some Brigadoon of Bluegrass! I first attended in 88′ It became a family holiday just behind Christmas. A family friendly community that gathers to bond once a year in our own small town!
